Experience the thrill of the Northwoods at the 7th Annual Northern Pines Sled Dog Race, one of Wisconsin’s most remarkable winter traditions. This cherished event draws over 60 professional and recreational mushers from across the Midwest to compete on the scenic trails of the Bayfield County Forest. With five racing categories ranging from high-speed pro teams to family-friendly recreational classes, there’s something for everyone.

Race Schedule:

  • 8:45 AM — 8-Dog Race (32 Miles)

  • 10:00 AM — 14-Dog Race (17 Miles)

  • 10:00 AM — Weight Pull (16 Feet)

  • 12:50 PM — Kids Fun Mutt Run (75 Feet)

  • 12:45 PM — 4-Dog Race (4 Miles)

  • 2:15 PM — 6-Dog Race (8 Miles)

  • 4:ish PM – Award Ceremony

All-Day Activities:

  • Food and craft vendors

  • Sled dog rides for the public

  • Free snowshoeing

  • Race swag

  • Meet the mushers and dogs

Deeply rooted in a tradition dating back thousands of years, sled dog racing celebrates the profound bond between humans and their canine partners. The event is committed to the highest standards of canine welfare, sportsmanship, and ecological care. Warm up inside the large indoor viewing area or watch from along the forested trail.
